Started my new job today. Nothing exciting yet, just new hire orientation. But I met the coworkers and it was good vibes. And free food, which is always nice.

I have finally figured out the key reason I got addicted to PvZ Survival:Endless gamemode, and where I can find similar experiences in the PvZ2:RFL mod.

So what I enjoyed was, the sun farming phase in the early stages, sun number goes up makes brain happy. And then replacing the sun producing plants with attacking plants, finding the window of opportunity in the middle of massive zombie waves to do so bit by bit is very tricky and yet very satisfying once pulled off. And finally, holding off the urge to silence the deafening noises of plant attacks, zombies chewing and all sorts of noises from the massive zombie waves with insta-kill plants, right up until the defense almost couldn't hold it anymore. The silence of a few seconds that came after all the zombies on screen is wiped out and it taking a few seconds to register that before sending another horde to the lawn is such a satisfying blissful moment. The fun comes from knowing and trusting your plants to take care of the horde and waiting for the right moment before nuking the lawn to release the stress that the defense had been taking on.

In PvZ2:RFL, early enough in the walkthrough, players unlocked "Penny's challenge" gamemode which is a weekly changing levels. Nowhere in the game does it say that the gamemode is reserved to endgame players, so I went in without knowing much of the game and got decimated before the level is half complete. I tried it again months later, just last week, where I finally completed it. It has all the characteristics and experience of Survival:Endless gamemode from the first game, only difference is its a single session instead, with 5 flags instead of gradually building your defense session after session 2 flags after 2 flags at a time.

Was let go from job but I'm so happy .. trying to decide between a cruise or just picking up a guitar and practicing daily. Life can be amazing if you give it a chance.

Unfortunately I don't believe another fandom like this will happen. I could be wrong and maybe something similar that is close enough will come along, but it seems to me that the internet is simultaneously becoming more fractured while also being less explored. If something like DRRR were to come out today I imagine it'd have a lot of fans, but most of them would settle for watching shorts on Youtube or Tik Tok rather than seek out any sort of chat or forum. A lot of the older community types are dying out. Being replaced by streams, shorts and the occasional discord server. =/
